Too Many Cooks...

The Old saying goes, "Too many cooks, spoil the broth" and did I ever see that in action a few weeks ago at a corporate event I worked.

Who's in charge here? Everyone?

This was an event for a trade association's charity gala. So, in order of the folks I met that were in charge, 1. Event coordinator hired from an external firm, 2. Event coordinator for the trade association, 3. Second Event coordinator 4. "Host of the event" and 5. Board members.

I know there is much leadership needed to pull off a successful large scale event but someone needs to make sure everyone is pointed in the right direction.

One of the other acts on the bill were to escort an award recipient to the stage. In the 25 foot walk from his table to the stage these poor performers where giving about 4 different directions from the various coordinators and hosts. Luckily the performers are professionals and took all the confusion in stride and did the simple job well.

Get Pointed in the Same Direction

It's no different at your event than it should be at the office or in the board room. Everyone should know their job and where jobs overlap communication is KEY!

Sure you don't have to do hundreds of hours of meetings to plan a great event but at least make sure there is a plan of action.
